Fact Check

The Claim

Patel shared the graph in a post on X with a caption that read: "Leadership matters."

It showed homicide rates between 1900 (around 6 per 100,000 people) and 2025 (4 per 100,000 people), which the graph says is America's "projected 125-year low."'

The Facts

The graph is based on data from the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ), which tracks crime trends in a sample of large U.S. cities, rather than the entire country.

In its latest report, tracking data until December 2025, it found that the rate of reported homicides was 21 percent lower in 2025 than in 2024, across the 35 study cities that provide data for that crime. This represents 922 fewer homicides, the study says.
