As the CEO of Home of Guiding Hands, I oversee an organization that supports more than 5,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across San Diego and Imperial counties. With a team of over 1,200 dedicated staff, we provide critical services that allow people with disabilities to live safely, independently, and with dignity. But today, I’m writing not just as a CEO — I’m writing as a father.
My daughter is a young woman with a developmental disability. She lives independently in her own home, something that wouldn’t be possible without Medicaid. With the right support — support made possible by public funding — she’s able to engage in her community, live with purpose and maintain her safety. But that future is now at risk.
