Blue Island crash leaves 1 dead, driver seriously injured

One person was killed and another seriously injured Friday after a vehicle driving down Western Avenue in Blue Island passed through a guardrail and flipped down an embankment. The vehicle, traveling north, hit the guardrail at a curve in the road near 13100 Western Ave and struck a tree, police say. Blue Island police responded near 2300 Vermont Street at about 10:30 p.m, and passenger Stephanie Heil, 41, of Bolingbrook, was pronounced dead.
