Boston's Sumner Tunnel will be closed for one month as crews continue critical repairs on the 89-year-old tunnel, state transportation officials said Tuesday.The Sumner Tunnel carries vehicles on Route 1A south from Logan International Airport and East Boston to the North End and downtown areas. It was originally constructed in 1934 and is now undergoing a complete overhaul.The closure is scheduled to begin on July 5 and last until Aug. 5, officials said.
