Even as former President Donald Trump remains a divisive force atop the Republican party, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) wants to make the 2022 midterms all about President Joe Biden.
"I do think we need to be talking about the future and not the past. I think the American people are focusing on this administration — and what it’s doing to the country. It’s my hope the ’22 election will be a referendum on the performance of the current administration, not a rehash of suggestions about what may have happened in 2020."

But how's that going? Three recent data points show Trump isn't leaving the spotlight.
He continues to blast out voting conspiracy theories and last week threatened Republicans wouldn't vote in coming years unless the 2020 election is overturned.
He headlined a rally in Iowa where Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), seeking reelection, enthusiastically accepted his endorsement.
He headlined a donor retreat for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in Palm Beach, Fla., according to the Washington Post.
A key test: Virginia's governor race. Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe has tried to tie his rival, Glenn Youngkin, to the former president in what's become a close contest.
