Fourth of July weekend saw more mass shootings than any other weekend this year

The number of mass shootings over the Fourth of July weekend topped any other weekend this year, new research shows.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 14 mass shootings over the holiday weekend with four or more people shot or killed.

The group also noted there have been 20 mass shootings so far in July and 336 this year.

CNN, citing data from the Gun Violence Archive, reported that there were at least 150 deaths from over 400 incidents of gun violence over the Fourth of July weekend.

In Chicago alone, 83 people were shot, with 14 killed. 

CNN reported that Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown had previously raised concerns about the "most challenging weekend of the year" for police.
