Neera Tanden joins White House staff after OMB nomination derailed

President Biden has tapped Neera Tanden to serve as a senior adviser after withdrawing her nomination to serve as White House budget director in March.

In her new role, Tanden is expected to focus on potential changes to the Affordable Care Act if the Supreme Court strikes it down, according to CNN, which broke news of the appointment.

Tanden was slated to head the Office of Management and Budget before facing backlash over controversial tweets insulting Republican senators made during her time at the Center for American Progress reemerged during the confirmation process, derailing her odds of obtaining the position, with at least one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) pulling his support due to her comments.
