De Blasio: ‘Political Debate’ Can Wait Until After NYPD Funerals

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday called for “political debate” and protests to end until after the funerals of two police officers fatally shot last weekend by a man who cited the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of law enforcement.

Mr. de Blaiso, who has come under intense scrutiny for his support for protesters and a deteriorating relationship with police unions, said the city’s focus should shift to the grieving families of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.

Police unions have partly laid blame on Mr. de Blasio, saying he created an anti-law-enforcement climate. Meanwhile, protesters have said they would continue with demonstrations over the lack of indictments in the cases of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, who died this year in confrontations with police in New York and Ferguson, Mo., respectively.
