The Trump administration will ask Congress for $58 million in security funding for the executive and judicial branches following the Sept. 10 assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
The supplemental funding request directs resources to the U.S. Marshals Service and includes enhanced protection for Supreme Court justices, a White House official said. The administration also supports increased funding for congressional security but will defer to the legislative branch on specifics, CBS News reported.
βWeβve got to protect people who run for public office or no one will, and thatβs heavy on our hearts and minds, as we also, you know, work through the trauma of what happened,β House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Thursday, adding that a thorough review of security protocols is underway.
