Farms across the country are filing for bankruptcy at the highest rate since 2021. New research from the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture found 259 farms nationwide filed for bankruptcy in the first three months of the year, more than all the farms in 2024. Farms are filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 12 of the federal bankruptcy code, which gives farmers and fishermen a chance to restructure their operations and a plan to repay all or part of their debts.
