The AllSides News Aggregator Bias Chart™ reveals the media bias of popular news aggregators, such as Google News, Bing News, Yahoo! News, Apple News, Drudge Report, and more. Most news aggregators curate primarily from media outlets with an AllSides Media Bias Rating of Lean Left or Left, and most curate less than 10% of articles from news outlets rated Lean Right or Right.
Some findings from AllSides news aggregator audits::
- Google News curates 63% of articles from media outlets AllSides rates on the left, 16% from the center, and 6% from the right. AllSides data analysis over time shows the same Lean Left trend.
- Apple News curates 53% of articles from media outlets on the left, 25% from the Center, and just 1% from the right.
- Drudge Report curates 49% of articles from sources on the left, 10% from the right, and 26% from the center. While Drudge Report curates mostly from outlets on the left, it alters headlines and chooses stories appealing to the right, so AllSides has rated Drudge Center, (+0.93), close to Lean Right.
- AllSides is the most balanced, curating 33% of articles from outlets on the left, 33% from outlets in the center, and 34% from outlets on the right.
News aggregators provide multiple news sources, but that does not mean they provide balanced perspectives — White House Wire is an example of one that doesn’t. This is perhaps to be expected, since the administration running the service is conservative. But readers should not assume that just because a news aggregator curates from a variety of sources that they are getting the full view or being presented with diverse perspectives to think for themselves.
Everyone has a bias, but hidden bias misleads and divides us. Our news aggregator chart, media bias charts, and other tools for news balance free you from filter bubbles so you can get multiple viewpoints and think for yourself.
