Second Coming

The term often used (mainly by conservative Christians) for the eventual return of Jesus Christ to earth in bodily form, and (by more liberal or mystical Christians) for the embodiment of the spirit of Christ in human beings.  Nearly all Christians see this event (or this embodiment) as a reflection of hope in a better world ahead, even as many of them believe this transformation will inevitably be accompanied by the working out of God’s justice, with eventual (and perhaps eternal) judgment, for better or worse, awaiting each person. This threat of judgment alienates those people who see a Christo-centric salvation as reflecting the prejudices of Christians rather than the will of God;  thus, the term “Second Coming” is sometimes held up for ridicule.
