Tulsa Gunman Bought Gun Hours Before Shooting His Physician and 3 Others

Summary from the AllSides News Team

A gunman killed four people and himself at a hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, police said.

Two of the four victims were doctors, including a surgeon whom the shooter blamed for ongoing pain following a May back surgery. Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said responding officers found a letter on the shooter’s body explaining his “clear” motive

Franklin said the gunman legally bought a .40-caliber pistol from a pawn shop on Sunday, as well as a semiautomatic AR-15 style rifle from a gun store at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, about 3 hours before the shooting. Franklin said both weapons were found at the scene.

Coverage was widespread, prominently featured and generally balanced across the spectrum on Thursday afternoon. Coverage from left-rated outlets often mentioned a statistic from the Gun Violence Archive listing this shooting as one of 233 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2022.
