A suspected gunman who killed three people and wounded several others on the campus of Michigan State University was found dead late Monday night from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The 43-year-old suspect was located off campus and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, MSU Police Interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman said. A campuswide shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after midnight Tuesday.
"This truly has been a nightmare that we are living tonight," Rozman said at a 12:30 a.m. press conference.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety announced early Tuesday morning that the five wounded victims in the shooting on the school's campus Monday night remain at Sparrow Hospital in critical condition.
The shooting inside an academic hall on university grounds also left three people dead.
The gunman, a 43-year-old Black male, is not affiliated with the university.
The suspect was eventually found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound off the university's campus, Deputy Chief Chris Rozman said.
