How the November Election Could Affect Zelenskyy’s Plan for Ending the War

With the 2024 presidential election looming, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is visiting the U.S. to meet with Biden administration officials and strategize how to end the country’s war with Russia.

Electoral Implications: Joshua Yaffa of The New Yorker (Left bias) recently interviewed Zelenskyy in Kyiv about his “victory plan.” Yaffa wrote that Zelenskyy “is saving the details for his meeting with Biden,” but “that the plan contains a number of elements related to Ukraine’s long-term security and geopolitical position.” Yaffa noted that on his U.S. trip, Zelenskyy will meet with not only Vice President Harris and President Biden, but also former President Trump, as he “is clearly aware that the results of the U.S. election hold potentially decisive implications for his country.”

Trump, Not Putin: Bethany Elliott, in an opinion for UnHerd (Center bias), wrote that “the true target of Zelensky’s plan is not the Kremlin, but… Trump.” Elliott noted that Zelenskyy wants his “‘victory plan’ implemented by the end of December, before Biden leaves office in January, and – as he puts it – ‘while all the officials who want the victory of Ukraine are in official positions.’”

Wooing Top Dems: Dan McLaughlin (Right bias) of National Review (Right bias) highlighted Zelenskyy’s Sunday stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to visit a munitions factory and meet with key Pennsylvania Democrats. McLaughlin argued “the symbolism of Scranton being Joe Biden’s birthplace is lost on nobody” and criticized Zelenskyy for taking “potshots” at Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), in the interview he gave to The New Yorker.
