Ted Cruz, Anthony Fauci Engage in War of Words

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have traded criticisms and accusations over the origins of COVID-19 and partisan politics.

In an interview over the weekend, Fauci criticized Cruz for suggesting that he be investigated for statements he made to the U.S. Senate regarding COVID-19's origins and gain-of-function experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Cruz responded by saying that Fauci is an "unelected technocrat" who engages in "distorted science and facts" in order to exercise control over the public.

Ted Cruz’s demand that Attorney General Merrick Garland prosecute the nation’s top infectious disease expert. During a wide-ranging sit-down with CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan, Fauci dismissed the political “theater” coming from GOP lawmakers such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who has called for Fauci to be arrested while accusing him of being responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.
