Marjorie Taylor Greene Ousted from House Freedom Caucus

The conservative House Freedom Caucus kicked out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after a vote in late June, a member of the group said.

The Details: “A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) told reporters Thursday. When asked if Green was formally out, Harris added, “As far as I know, that is the way it is.” The remarks confirmed initial reporting on the vote by Politico (Lean Left bias). 

For Context: The vote reportedly occurred two days after Greene called fellow Freedom Caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) a “little b****,” reportedly for copying her articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. Harris cited the incident as “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” The House Freedom Caucus has drawn headlines several times in the past year, including for holding up House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) speakership vote and stalling House business in June over McCarthy’s debt ceiling compromise with Biden. 

How the Media Covered It: Coverage was slightly more common on the left than on the right; Fox News (Right bias) did not appear to cover the story at all by Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, some on the left used the opportunity to comment on conservative lawmakers; one writer in The Atlantic (Lean Left bias) said Greene was “no longer radical enough for the GOP’s radical fringe.”
