Summary from the AllSides News Team
Vice President JD Vance appeared on ABC's "The View" on Tuesday.
The Details: Vance answered a myriad of questions on topics such as black history, his political standing, and the Epstein files. Host Whoopi Goldberg said the Trump administration "stigmatize[s] folks of color" by "taking down the actual history that happened in this country," and Sunny Hostin pointed to controversial redistricting efforts surrounding race. Vance refuted the statements, asserting, "We celebrate black history, we celebrate all American history in this administration." Of the Epstein files, he was relatively ambiguous and said, "We want to release these files, but you need the court approval."

On The Left: Outlets on the left largely framed Vance with a negativity bias, using word choice and slant in headlines. CNN (Lean Left bias), for example, said Vance "confess[ed]" to being an "Epstein 'conspiracy theorist.'" ABC (Lean Left) similarly reported that he "appear[ed] to acknowledge Situation Room meetings on Epstein files." And Raw Story (Left) said The View "call[ed] out" Vance. HuffPost (Left) deviated from this "gotcha" reporting, leding with The View host Joy Behar's positive commentary about Vance. Behar reportedly said, "I think if he were president, he would go back to being a kinder person."

On The Right: Outlets on the right framed Vance's willingness to appear on The View as commendable and hero-like – also using word choice and slant. The Daily Wire's (Right) headline said Vance "[took] on the women of 'The View,'" and Daily Caller (Right) said he "cross[ed] into enemy territory." Fox News (Right) criticized the hosts by saying they "struggl[ed]" to explain claims that the Trump administration diminished black history. Washington Examiner (Lean Right) highlighted Vance's claim of humility in his evolving support for the Trump administration.
