White House Hints at Pulling 'The View' After Behar Comments
Summary from the AllSides News Team
The Trump administration suggested it could cancel ABC’s “The View” after one of its co-hosts, Joy Behar, joked that President Donald Trump was jealous of former President Barack Obama.
The Details: During Wednesday's episode, Behar criticized Trump saying, “Obama is everything that he is not." The White House responded saying, "Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome” and “She should self-reflect on her own jealousy…before her show is the next to be pulled off-air.” There was speculation about the future of the show, however on Thursday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “We’ll be back for our new season in September.”
For Context: Earlier this week, CBS (Lean Left bias) announced it would cancel “The Late Show” starting in May 2026 after comedian and political commentator Stephen Colbert criticized a settlement between Trump and Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company. CBS said in a statement that canceling the show was “purely a financial decision.” Trump also criticized “South Park”—another Paramount Global show—after it aired an episode mocking his administration this week. In July, Paramount Global agreed to pay $16 million to settle a legal dispute with Trump regarding its interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
How the Media Covered It: The New Republic (Left) framed Trump’s response as a way to get his approval ratings back up after ‘The View’ “mock[ed] him mercilessly.” Fox News (Right) highlighted the White House’s response, and ‘The View’ saying it “is ranking No. 1 in households.” It also mentioned that CBS is “losing $40 million a year.” The Hill (Center) framed the dispute in the context of Trump’s ongoing settlements with major news companies and a $15 million to settle a lawsuit the president brought against ABC last year.
