Jan. 6 Committee Subpoenas 6 Trump Associates

The House January 6 Committee subpoenaed six more associates of former President Donald Trump on Monday. Those subpoenaed included campaign staffers Bill Stepien, Jason Miller, and Angela McCallum, as well as former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, former New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik, and John Eastman, a lawyer who advised Trump on challenging the 2020 election results. In a statement, committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson said, “The Select Committee needs to know every detail about their efforts to overturn the election, including who they were talking to in the White House and in Congress, what connections they had with rallies that escalated into a riot, and who paid for it all.”

Coverage was widespread and prominently featured in most major left- and center-rated outlets and some right-rated outlets on Monday evening. Coverage from the left tended to go into more detail about the subpoena recipients’ potential ties to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. At least one article in a right-rated outlet discussed partisan disagreements from the committee’s formation.
