ICE Raids, Protests, and Riots Expand to Other US Cities

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Amid unrest in Los Angeles over anti-ICE protests, protests and riots have spread to cities across the US.

Las Vegas: On Wednesday night, protesters gathered in downtown Las Vegas, and shortly after 9 p.m. the local police department posted that the protest was “an unlawful assembly” due to protesters “engaging in illegal activity.” The police used tear gas, rubber bullets, and flashbang grenades to disperse the crowd.

Texas: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced he would deploy the National Guard across parts of the state ahead of a protest planned in San Antonio on Wednesday. On Monday, protesters in Austin blocked the streets in some districts and faced tear gas and pepper spray projectiles.

Other Cities: Local police also arrested protesters in San Francisco, Santa Ana, New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Spokane, Washington. Chicago and Portland, Oregon, also saw mass protests. Cristina Pacione-Zayas, the chief of staff to the Chicago mayor, said, “There will be tactical teams, mini-tanks, other tools they use in which they plan to do raids, as we saw in Los Angeles.” NBC News Chicago (Center) reported that ICE tactical teams are also expected to be sent to Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Seattle.
