Inside Ted Cruzโ€™s second-floor campaign office here on a recent afternoon, there were telltale signs of an operation in overdrive: dozens of volunteers calling voters and reยญfueling with Mountain Dew, coffee and snacks; staffers busily working on laptops; and an ambitious message on a whiteboard: โ€œOur Goal Today = 20,000 Calls.โ€

But there were also indications of trouble. Volunteers said they were hearing misgivings from voters โ€” many rooted in insults that front-runner Donald Trump had hurled at Cruz.

Donald Trump is raising the stakes in Indiana.

Encouraged by a new poll giving him a double-digit lead in the state and eager to pivot to the general election, the Republican front-runner stressed the importance of Indiana's Tuesday GOP primary more than he or his top advisers have previously.
"Indiana is so important and we have to win it," Trump said to a crowd of approximately 1,500 people packed into a theater here in Terre Haute, Indiana. "If we win Indiana, it's over."
