Bipartisan Outcry as National Guardsmen Told to Sleep in Parking Garage

After reportedly being told to take their breaks in a parking garage Thursday, thousands of National Guardsmen in Washington D.C. have been allowed back inside the Capitol Complex to take their rest time. Photos showing troops sleeping on the floor of the parking garage quickly went viral on social media, prompting lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to condemn the move as disrespectful. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and freshman Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), who are typically polar opposites on matters of policy, each took to Twitter to express support for the troops and offer their government office spaces as places to rest. Many others in both major parties did the same. Reports on both sides of the media spectrum were often similar, and focused on the bipartisan nature of the outcry. Some right-rated outlets focused more on responses from Republican lawmakers; some left-rated sources concentrated more on how Democrat lawmakers responded.
