Donald Trump’s Student Visa Crackdown Doesn’t Seem Very Pro-Free Speech

Donald Trump boasted before Congress on Tuesday that he had “stopped all government censorship and brought back free speech in America.” But his administration then proceeded to spend the rest of the week proving him wrong.

Senior State Department officials told Axios Thursday that the department will begin using AI tools to scan visa holders’ social media posts for any evidence of “pro-Hamas” views in order to justify taking away their visas. The officials reportedly called it a “catch and revoke” program, which will also include a review of arrest databases, news reports from anti-Israel demonstrations and lawsuits brought by Jewish students, which implicate visa holders.
