Many Portland-area school districts are eligible for a slice of the $30 million that Oregon lawmakers recently set aside for summer school. But Portland Public Schools, the state’s largest district, didn’t make the cut, primarily because it is predominantly white and has relatively little child poverty. Beaverton, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, Gresham-Barlow, David Douglas, Reynolds, Centennial and Parkrose are among the metro area districts that the state education agency designated as first in line to apply for the funding, which maxes out at $1.5 million per district.
