Former President Donald Trump has endorsed North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to replace Ronna McDaniel as the chairperson of the Republican National Committee. Additionally, Trump will support Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, as the RNC’s co-chairwoman.

Donald Trump’s support for Whatley, who currently serves as the RNC’s general counsel, comes after the former president said he expected changes at the committee. McDaniel reportedly told Donald Trump during a private meeting recently that she would step down from her role in the party. The former president’s allies have sought to push her out as concerns have grown over the national party’s finances.

“The RNC MUST be a good partner in the Presidential election. It must do the work we expect from the national Party and do it flawlessly,” Donald Trump said in a statement Monday evening. “That means helping to ensure fair and transparent elections across the country, getting out the vote everywhere – even in parts of the country where it won’t be easy – and working with my campaign, as the Republican presumptive nominee for President, to win this election and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
