FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday said that the FBI has "multiple ongoing investigations into individuals affiliated with [Hamas]" during congressional testimony, indicating that the FBI warns that Hamas terrorists could be inspired by the Hamas attacks in Israel.
"We cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or another foreign terrorist organization may exploit the current conflict to conduct attacks here on our own soil," Wray said during a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
Wray said that an even bigger concern than a domestic terrorist attack was the possibility that "violent extremists, individuals or small groups, will draw inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks against Americans."
Wray noted that Jewish people and Muslims have already been harassed, threatened, attacked and even killed in recent days.
