Boston University Probes Complaints at Antiracist Center Founded By Activist

Boston University is investigating its Center for Antiracist Research after receiving complaints about the center's culture and financial management.

The inquiry comes just a week after the center laid off between 20 and 30 employees at the institution, according to The Boston Globe. An archived version of the "team" section on the center's website shows roughly 45 people worked at the center in July.

Boston University opened the center during the summer of 2020 amid widespread protests against police brutality and the killing of George Floyd and other Black men and women. The institution was designed by the university and Ibram X. Kendi, a prominent civil rights activist and author of “How to Be an Antiracist," to "fight racism" through research, data collection and advocacy campaigns, according to its website.
