Biden visits Puerto Rico after Fiona: President will announce new aid, meet victims

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on Monday headed to Puerto Rico and will visit Florida Wednesday after hurricanes ravaged the two areas.

In Puerto Rico, the Bidens surveyed the damage from Hurricane Fiona, which killed more than two dozen people on the island last month, officials have said. Hurricane Ian shortly after struck Florida, killing more than 70 people before moving up along the Atlantic coast and killing at least four more people in North Carolina.

"We came here in person to show that we're with you... all of America is with you as you receive and recover and rebuild. I'm confident to—---I'm confident we're going to be able to do all you want, Governor. And I'm committed to this island," Biden said, pledging his commitment to investing in the island, "as long as it takes."
