Senate may vote Wednesday on bill to prevent a government shutdown as deadline approaches

The Senate may vote as soon as Wednesday on a bill that would prevent a government shutdown, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said.

Federal funding will lapse if Congress fails to pass an appropriations plan before midnight Thursday. Senators plan to introduce a bill that would keep the government running into early December, according to Schumer, a New York Democrat.
