Republicans feel discouraged that President Trump will not accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination in-person at a convention in Jacksonville, Florida, due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I told my team it's time to cancel the Jacksonville, Florida, component of the GOP convention," Trump told reporters Thursday at the White House.
Republican delegates will, instead, only meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the business component of the convention. Additionally, Trump said Republicans would hold "telerallies" and other events online.
House Republican lawmakers, though, pointed to Trump’s large rallies, his greatest strength on the 2016 campaign trail, being stifled during this election cycle and said the cancellation of the Jacksonville convention is no exception.
