What Went Down During The Trump Impeachment Judiciary Committee Hearing

Today the House Judiciary Committee heard from four constitutional law experts who testified about whether they believed the evidence collected in the impeachment inquiry showed that President Trump had committed an impeachable offense as defined in the Constitution.

Perhaps predictably, given the partisan rancor this investigation has stirred, the three witnesses called by the Democrats said that they thought Trump had committed an impeachable offense, while the one witness called by the Republicans argued that he hadn’t.

It’s unclear whether the House Judiciary Committee will hold another hearing, but it is expected that they’ll use both the House Intelligence Committee’s 300-page report and today’s testimony to help draft articles of impeachment, which, if Democrats’ Counsel Norm Eisen’s line of questioning was any indication, seem likely to include at least three possible impeachable offense: abuse of power and bribery, obstruction of Congress, and obstruction of justice.
