Antisemitic Assaults in US Hit 30 Year High: ADL Report

Summary from the AllSides News Team

There were over 203 anti-Jewish physical assaults in the US in 2025, marking the highest level since 1979, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The Details: Out of the 203 antisemitic physical assaults in the US last year, 32 involved a deadly weapon, up from 23 in 2024. However, ADL also noted that antisemitic incidents in general (harassment, vandalism, or assault) declined 33% in 2025 from 2024. Three people were killed in antisemitic attacks, which marks the most fatalities from antisemitic assaults since 2019. The attacks included a shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., an attack at a Colorado rally for Israeli hostages, and a stabbing of a Jewish man in New York.

For Context: A separate report from Tel Aviv University revealed that 30 Jewish people were killed in antisemitic attacks globally, also the highest number in 30 years. ADL also found that 46% of adults globally hold "significant antisemitic beliefs." ADL was founded in 1913, "at a time when American Jews—both new immigrants and generations-long members of our society—were experiencing deep-seated bigotry," according to its website

How the Media Covered It: The ADL report was rarely covered by outlets in the center or on the right. New York Post (Lean Right bias) reported on the report and added specific statistics from New York City, noting that New York "accounted for 44% of all violent attacks against Jews nationally." Similarly, Straight Arrow News (Center) highlighted the significant number of incidents that occurred in New York City. Axios (Lean Left) noted that incidents are rising worldwide, not just in the US, and are "often tied to geopolitical conflict in Gaza and Iran." Both Axios and CNN (Lean Left) noted that antisemitic incidents on college campuses declined by 66% from 2024.

Physical assaults against Jewish people in the U.S. last year reached the highest levels since 1979, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announced Wednesday.

Why it matters: An overall decline in anti-Jewish harassment and vandalism didn't extend to a reduction in violence.

ADL counted 6,274 antisemitic incidents in 2025, down 33% from 2024, but still the third-highest year on record.
Last year saw 203 anti-Jewish assaults, up from 196 in 2024. 32 of those assaults involved deadly weapons, up from 23 in 2024.
