Zelenskyy Says Ukrainian Leadership ‘Reset’ Is Necessary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Italian broadcaster RAI TV that he was considering a leadership “reset,” seemingly confirming days of speculation on his reported plans to replace his country’s top general.

For Context: Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi has served as commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces since 2021. His role in the defense of Kyiv at the start of Russia’s invasion gave him international popularity; some have called him Ukraine’s “iron general.” However, Zaluzhnyi and Zelenskyy have reportedly feuded behind the scenes for months; in late 2023, Zelenskyy denied a claim by Zaluzhnyi that the war had entered a stalemate.
