Trump Replaces Noem As DHS Secretary
Summary from the AllSides News Team
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is being replaced by Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).
MAGA Warrior: President Donald Trump announced Thursday via Truth Social that effective March 31, Mullin will replace Noem. Trump said he is "pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma" is to be the new DHS Secretary. Trump highlighted the "tremendous job" Mullin has done representing the people of Oklahoma, calling him "a MAGA Warrior" that "truly gets along well with people, and knows the Wisdom and Courage required to Advance our America First Agenda." Trump also highlighted that Mullin is the only Native American in the Senate, saying he "is a fantastic advocate for our incredible Tribal Communities."
Served Us Well: Trump said that Noem "has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the border!)" and that she "has served us well." Trump explained that she will "be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere" that will be announced on Saturday in Doral, Florida.
Turmoil and Public Backlash: Fox News (Right bias) said the "ousting" was due to "recent turmoil" and highlighted Trump reportedly being "furious with Noem's performance in congressional hearings this week over controversial ad contract." Axios (Lean Left) said that "Noem drew bipartisan fury after accusing Minneapolis nurse Alex Pretti and mother Renee Nicole Good of being domestic terrorists." Axios also said that "Noem's exit leaves Trump's mass deportation agenda without its most prominent face amid a public backlash."
Congressional Hearings: Noem, according to The Hill (Center), "faced aggressive lines of questioning from members of both sides of the aisle" during a hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. Republicans during the hearing tended to focus more on Noem's $220 million ad campaign that Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said "boosted" her "name recognition." Democrats instead tended to focus on asking Noem to defend her assertions that Good and Pretti were domestic terrorists. Β Β Β
