Media Across Political Spectrum Criticize Nick Fuentes After Interview

Right-wing political influencer Nick Fuentes (Right bias) joined British broadcaster Piers Morgan (Lean Right) to discuss topics including race, gender and the Holocaust this week. News outlets across the political spectrum critiqued Fuentes' ideology and downplayed him as a legitimate political voice.

The Details: The interview took place on "Piers Morgan Uncensored", where Piers pressed Fuentes on his extreme views, including his praise for Adolf Hitler. Fuentes said Hitler was "really f*cking cool" and he's "tired of people pretending he's not." When questioned about his sexuality, Fuentes–known for his adversarial views on women–said, "I am attracted to women" but they "are very difficult to be around." One viral clip from the interview includes Fuentes saying, "Jews are running society, women need to shut the f*** up, blacks need to be imprisoned, for the most part, and we would live in paradise! It's that simple."

Meant As a 'Joke': Several online users argued Fuentes' views are meant as a joke or "hyperbolic", and that he does it to get a rise out of people–specifically, Boomers. During the interview, Fuentes also said his views on Hitler are "not that deep" and that it's all for "sh*ts and giggles." Substack writer Peter McCormack (Not Rated) wrote, "[Fuentes] couldn't care less if we think he's disgusting. In fact, the more offended we are, the funnier it is for him. It's fuel." NPR (Lean Left) and Washington Examiner (Lean Right) contrasted Fuentes with conservative commentator Brett Cooper, who called Fuentes' views "intentionally inflammatory" and said censoring him would increase public interest in his views.

Common Ground: Coverage from outlets across the political spectrum criticized Fuentes' views and insinuated they don't take him seriously. Daily Best (Left) highlighted Fuentes saying he was a virgin at 27-years-old. A New York Times Opinion (Left) contextualized the interview within what is argued was a broader "rebirth of gutter antisemitism and racism within the conservative movement." Outlets on the right appeared to separate Fuentes from overall conservative ideology. New York Post (Lean Right) emphasized Fuentes' views were "misogynistic", and described him as "Hitler-loving" and a "notorious woman-hater." The Washington Examiner said Morgan exposed Fuentes "for the fraud he truly is," and characterized his platform as a "train wreck." Townhall (Right) questioned Fuentes' online popularity, noting "significant disparities" between his metrics and those of other political commentators. It suggested his engagement appears inflated by a "coordinated network…driven by bots" and early activity from international accounts.
