House Votes to Impeach Trump

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 232-197 Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump for “inciting violence against the government of the United States” following the breach of the U.S. Capitol building last week. Ten House Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to pass the single impeachment article. The Senate will vote next, but not until after President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration Jan. 20, according to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). The 100 senators will be divided 50-50 between the parties after two Democrats elected in Georgia's recent runoffs take office later this month. A two-thirds supermajority would be needed in the Senate to convict Trump. The president has openly criticized the current efforts to push him out of office.
