House Democrats Pass $3 Trillion 'HEROES Act'; Republicans Condemn it

Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives passed a new $3 trillion coronavirus relief package on Friday, the fifth piece of legislation aimed at easing pressures placed on workers and the economy by the pandemic. Dubbed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions, or HEROES Act, the bill includes another round of stimulus checks, expanded unemployment benefits, and hazard pay for frontline workers, among other provisions. But the package has been met with criticism from Republicans, many of whom have rejected it as "a Democratic agenda masquerading as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.” Coverage of the bill has varied, with many outlets on the left focusing on its individual details and provisions and many on the right highlighting the GOP response.
