AOC Supports Pay Raise for Lawmakers

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D- NY), known for her more progressive policy points, supports a pay raise for lawmakers to adjust for cost of living. She justified her position by saying that a pay raise of $4,500 would keep dark money out of politics and could aid in campaign finance reform while also allowing lawmakers to live more comfortably in Washington, D.C. Her remarks come after a report by The Hill revealed some lawmakers are sleeping in their offices and waking up in the halls of the capital building in their underwear. Critics have said her viewpoint conflicts with her 'socialist' views. AOC said a $4,500 pay raise on a $174,000 salary is "not even like a raise." She recognized, on Twitter, that her stance on the issue is not a popular one for any side of the aisle.
