Pelosi Says Jan. 6 Committee Will Continue Despite GOP 'Antics'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that the House select committee on the January 6th Capitol riot would continue despite House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s pledge that Republicans would not participate in a “sham committee.” “It is my responsibility as the speaker of the House to make sure we get to the truth of this, and we will not let their antics stand in the way of that,” Pelosi said in a news conference. The comments come a day after McCarthy pulled GOP nominees to the committee in retaliation for Pelosi’s rejection of Reps. Jim Banks and Jim Jordan. Rep. Liz Cheney, who is now the sole Republican appointed to the committee, also criticized McCarthy on Thursday, saying that his “playing politics” was “disgraceful.” Pelosi is reportedly considering appointing Republican Trump critic Rep. Adam Kinzinger to the committee.
