Mainstream Media Offer Conflicting Reports on Whether Hamas May Accept Ceasefire

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a peace proposal for Gaza on Monday, and media across the spectrum have offered conflicting reports on whether Hamas may accept it.

Accept: CBS News (Lean Left bias) reported on Tuesday that “Hamas and other Palestinian factions are leaning toward accepting” the ceasefire and would “present the group's response to Egyptian and Qatari mediators on Wednesday.” CBS attributed the scoop to “a source close to the process.”

Reject: “A senior Hamas figure” told BBC News (Center) on Tuesday that Hamas would likely reject the proposal because it “serves Israel's interests” and “ignores those of the Palestinian people.” In BBC’s words, the figure told it that “Hamas is unlikely to agree to disarming and handing over their weapons - a key condition of Trump's plan.” BBC also noted that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), which participated in the October 7 terror attack, rejected the plan on Tuesday.

Neither: Fox News (Right) reported on Tuesday that “top officials from Qatar and Egypt met with Hamas negotiators and shared” the proposal. “An official briefed on the talks” told Fox that Hamas negotiators would review it “in good faith and provide a response.”

For Context: President Trump told reporters on Tuesday that his administration would give Hamas “about 3 or 4 days.” Trump said, “Now, all of the Arab countries are signed up. The Muslim countries all signed up. Israel's all signed up. And Hamas is either going to be doing it or not. And if it's not, it's going to be a very sad end.”
