Gaza Border Crossing Opens to Allow Foreigners, Wounded Into Egypt

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Egypt, Israel, and Hamas have reached a deal to allow some evacuations out of Gaza and into Egypt through the Rafah crossing.

The Details: Roughly 500 people were expected to evacuate Wednesday, many of them critically wounded civilians or foreign nationals. At least 400 Americans are stuck in Gaza, and at least two were reportedly allowed to leave Wednesday. It's unclear how long the crossing will remain open. Qatar reportedly helped broker the agreement.

For Context: It's the first time a route has been opened for civilians to leave Gaza since the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7. The Rafah crossing is one of three routes in and out of Gaza, and is located in southern Gaza along the border with Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

How the Media Covered it: Qatari government-run news source Al Jazeera (Lean Left bias) said the opening "followed another day of bloodshed in Gaza in which an Israeli air raid killed at least about 50 people in Jabalia refugee camp." Fox News (Right) said the opening comes after Israel "greatly expanded ground operations in Gaza, clearing Hamas terrorists out of their fortified positions and tunnels."
