Kyle Rittenhouse Will Not Face Charges in Illinois

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old who was accused of killing two people and injuring a third with an AR-15 rifle during Black Lives Matter protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, will not face charges in his home state of Illinois. According to a news release by Lake County State's Attorney's Office, police in Rittenhouse's hometown of Antioch, where he turned himself in, investigated any possible crimes Rittenhouse may have committed in Illinois, but found none. The release also said prosecutors would release additional information "as to not disrupt any investigation that may be taking place in Wisconsin." Rittenhouse will continue to stay in a Lake County juvenile detention center as his lawyers attempt to block his extradition to Wisconsin, where he is facing six charges, including one count of first-degree homicide. The story was covered by outlets from across the political spectrum. Right-rated outlets also focused on the charges against another man who allegedly fired off a handgun amid the protests in Kenosha on the same night.
