FBI Arrests Wisconsin Judge for Allegedly Hiding Unauthorized Immigrant From ICE

A Wisconsin judge appeared in court on Friday after being arrested by the FBI for allegedly aiding an unauthorized immigrant in avoiding arrest.

The Details: Judge Hannah Dugan faces two charges, one for obstruction and one for concealing the individual from ICE officials. According to the complaint, six members of a federal immigration task force had planned to arrest Eduardo Flores-Ruiz after he was scheduled for a pre-trial conference in Dugan’s courtroom in a domestic battery case. A courtroom deputy took a picture of the plainclothes officers and approached the judge to let her know that ICE agents were outside the courtroom, showing her the picture. Dugan reportedly confronted the officers with an “angry demeanor.” Shortly after, the officers said they saw Flores-Ruiz and his attorney exit through a jury door to avoid arrest. Dugan has disputed local reports of the interaction, and Flores-Ruiz was arrested later that day.

How The Media Covered It: CNN (Lean Left bias) said, “The arrest on federal charges is an escalation in the Trump administration’s focus on judges’ conduct,” and referred to Flores-Ruiz as an “undocumented immigrant.” Fox News (Right) referred to Flores-Ruiz as an illegal alien or illegal migrant. It also quoted state Rep. Bob Donovan, who said of Dugan's actions, “This borders on obstruction of justice.” Newsweek (Center) wrote, “Dugan's arrest marks a significant shift in tensions between the justice system and the Executive branch,” noting the "judge said in an email that a warrant was not presented.”
