Georgia, California Certify Election Results For Biden

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Monday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that the state certified the results of the presidential race in Joe Biden's favor, after a second recount requested by the Trump campaign. "We have now counted legally cast ballots three times, and the results remain unchanged," Raffensperger said. If the margin between the candidates is under 0.5%, state laws allow requests for a recount. President Donald Trump requested a recount after the results initially showed Biden leading by a margin of 12,670 votes in Georgia. The final tally showed Biden won by under 12,000 votes. The Georgia lawsuit was a part of lawyer Sidney Powell's promise to "release the Kraken," referring to lawsuits that would purportedly reveal decisive voter fraud. Georgia's announcement comes one day before Congress approves results already certified by each state. On Dec. 4, California also certified its election results in Biden's favor, giving him more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to become president. The Georgia state results were covered by outlets across the political spectrum.
