DeSantis Signs $1.2 Billion Tax Relief Package to Combat Inflation

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a $1.2 billion tax relief package into law on Friday that seeks to combat the rising cost of goods.

The bill, HB 7071, will enforce a one-year sales tax exemption on a wide array of items such as gasoline, tools for skilled trades and tickets to certain sporting events. Starting on July 1, Floridian families will benefit from a yearlong tax break on diapers, clothes and shoes for babies and young children. DeSantis announced a number of special tax holidays that will occur throughout the year, including "Freedom Week" in the first week of July, when the state will suspend sales taxes on recreational activities. The governor attributed rising prices to "Biden-flation headwinds" and blamed the administration's handling of the economy.

Right-rated outlets were more likely to frame DeSantis' tax relief package in a positive light. Insider (Lean Left bias) emphasized how "at least one portion" of the tax relief package is being paid for by the Democrat's American Rescue Plan, which "Republicans and even some outside analysts frequently blame the spending package for contributing to inflation."
