CDC Reinstates 700 Employees After Accidental Layoff Notices

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reinstating hundreds of employees that received accidental termination notices on Friday.

The Details: Roughly 700 of the approximately 1,300 CDC employees laid off on Friday were reinstated on Sunday, according to the American Federation of Government Employees. About 600 workers remain laid off. A Health and Human Services (HHS) official told CNN (Lean Left bias) the terminations were a mistake due to a coding error on the notices. Among those reinstated include personnel who publish the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, and members of both the Epidemic Intelligence Services (EIS) and Measles and Ebola Response Teams.

For Context: More than 4,000 federal workers were terminated Friday as part of the Trump administration's mass layoffs during the ongoing government shutdown. Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought wrote on X, "The RIFs have begun." As of Friday evening, RIFs–reduction in force notifications–went out to the departments of Commerce, Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Homeland Security, HHS, and the Treasury, according to CNN.
