Trump Holds First Rally Since Mar-a-Lago Search

Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Saturday night in support of Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz. This was the first rally held by the former President since the FBI executed a search warrant on his Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago last month, a topic that Trump addressed heavily in his speech.

Pennsylvania has emerged as a battleground state in the lead up to the midterm elections later this year. In the Senate race, Trump-endorsed TV personality and Doctor Mehmet Oz is currently trailing in the polls behind his opponent, Democrat and Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman. 

Trump’s speech came only days after President Biden’s Philadelphia speech, which Trump called “the most vicious, hateful, and divisive speech ever delivered by an American president.”

Outlets on the left and center honed in on Trump’s indirect comments about running for President in 2024, and his criticism of Fetterman. The New York Times, Associated Press (Lean Left Bias), and Newsweek addressed Trump’s claim that Fetterman used drugs. Outlets on the right like Fox News (Right Bias) and Washington Times (Lean Right Bias) covered Trump’s speech, but mainly focused on remarks critical of Biden, with Fox News making no note of his comments on the Mar-a-Lago search, the FBI, or future campaign aspirations. The Daily Wire and Insider (Lean Left Bias) both edited a quote to remove a portion where Trump alluded to the 2020 Election being fraudulent.
