For the second year, AllSides, a national leader in balanced news and media bias ratings, will honor three student journalists with $500 prizes for their work supporting the AllSides mission to help people understand the world — and each other.
Student journalists will not only benefit from a $500 prize, but also national recognition for their talent and dedication — something that sets college applicants apart.
The first AllSides Student Journalism Award (formally called the AllSides Student Journalism Contest) ran last year. We had over 50 truly impressive submissions, and awarded three student journalists with $500 for their phenomenal submissions that honored the AllSides mission.
The award is open to students grades K–16, from all school types, including public, private, homeschool/unschool, charter, and magnet schools, but there are no separate age categories, so young participants should be prepared to compete alongside older students.
Students may submit up to two articles in the following categories for consideration:
- Bias Alert: Original research and objective reporting on the types of bias.
- Misinformation Watch: Cover all sides of a recent example of misinformation you have seen.
- Under the Radar: Report all perspectives of story you think deserves more coverage.
Submissions will be accepted from September 1 through December 31 (11:59 PM PST). Winners will be announced on January 31, 2027.
