Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is jumping in to defend California Governor Gavin Newsom after comments he made during a book event in Atlanta are being called racist by right-wing personalities.
Newsom was in Atlanta Sunday to preview his memoir, "Young Man in a Hurry," and sat down with Dickens on stage.
What did Gavin Newsom say?
The mayor moderated a conversation with Newsom about his new book, and about the "two separate lives" he describes. Dickens asked Newsom specifically about his experience with dyslexia and "what do you want us to take from that?"
Newsom said he had to put on a mask to cover up his nerves and discomfort early in his career, but his life is a story about "redemption" and "humility and grace."
